Girls in Gowns

June 1, 2010

I love these girls and I’m so thankful for the little part of my week I get to to spend with them.  They lift me and make me want to be better in everything I do.  They are funny, insightful, vibrant, spiritual, beautiful, young women.  We recently had so much fun when we traveled to Veronica Michaels, and were met by the proprietor of the shop Leslie Carr.  She made us feel so welcome and opened not only her beautiful store up to the girls but she also opened her heart to us….She talked with them about her love for the temple and graciously shared her testimony with us.  It was wonderful to be there with her.  It took me back to a time I long for.  The days of mom and pop stores, of feeling special from the minute you walked in the door and were greeted by your first name.

I can still remember the names of different people whose businesses I frequented.  I bought my shoes from Roger, and my 501’s from Smiley.  If  I was headed to the Neola rodeo and needed western wear then Bumps was the man I saw.  Uncle Bob filled my prescriptions when I was sick…and Dottie helped me at the counter and always had a special treat to slip in my bag.  When I was hungry I sat myself at the counter of Marions where I was served the best ever BBQ hamburger by Eldon. I loved being able to walk across the street from my mom’s shop and visit my friend Penny who was working at her mom’s shop.

This is the feeling you get in Leslie’s shop.  The girls were treated like princesses.  They were each given a  beautiful embroidered robe and a dressing room and then they were turned loose with all those wedding dresses.  Leslie only asked one thing of each of them…..and that was to only try on gowns that they could wear in the temple.  Sister Clayson and I sat back and let the fashion show begin.  It was so much fun.  The girls each looked so beautiful dressed in white.

Thank you Danette for such a fab idea, and thank you again to Leslie for giving us your time and sharing your beautiful store with us.  And a great big thank you to Kayla, Jade, Crysta, Sheliese and Morgan for letting me share in this time in your life….for trying to keep me up with teenage trends and for never making me feel dumb when I act my age with you.  I love you girls and I truly am grateful for the time I get to spend with you.

Becky Rockwood: I completely agree that these girls are beautiful inside and out. You captured the night fantastically and the girls will cherish it always.

Sugar and spice and everything nice…that’s what little girls are made of……Oh my goodness are these the most beautiful girls ever…and they look absolutely adorable.  They were like little bundles of fluff all dolled up in their tutu dresses.  They were full of giggles and tinkling laughter…….Delightful!!!

nichole: Oh my goodness you take darn good pictures sonnet. I might just have to drive to you to get some pictures of Ryan and I your so good! *Nichole

I am in love with a house…..a pink house no less.  This house haunts my dreams and my fantasies…..If I had a million dollars, I’d buy me this house.  And it would become my studio.  The love of my life doesn’t quite catch the vision of this house like I do, when he looks at it he just sees lots of work and lots of things falling apart.  But when I look at this house I fall more and more in love with it…..it is completely enchanting to me.

I have wanted to do a session at this house for some time…but I didn’t have the right person….and then I met Erica….she loves old things and vintage just like me….we are a match made in heaven.  Thank you Erica for indulging me and making a little bit of my dreams come true.

I recently had the honor of traveling to La Jolla California to photograph the most incredible wedding with Randi and even Lizzy tagged along with us for this one.  And can I tell you…..I Love Destination Weddings!!!  There is something so intimate about them.  The setting was the Darlington House and the glorious Pacific Ocean.  All I can say was everything was perfect!!!  Love was in the air when we arrived.  I could feel it from the top of my head to the tip of my toes…….such a beautiful bride and groom head-over-heels-in-love with each other……and family and friends there to share this day way with two people they loved with all their hearts.   It was a fairytale.  They will live happily ever after!

I have lots of things I should be doing…..two albums to design, a  wedding announcement to design….always lots of pictures to edit…but in my search of my computer for elements I need to finish my project, I came across these pictures, lost in an abandoned folder….and I smiled!  Oh the innocence of youth, the silliness of friends, the giggles of little girls…and to think it all came about from a tube of lipstick.

Oh to be so young again………meet Adrie and Brett!!!  They are head over heels in love and made my job so easy.  I know I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again…”I love my job and getting to know all of these amazing people I work with”….and I feel so blessed that I get to share in this time each of their lives!!

Look how They’ve grown!

March 29, 2010

Just a mom today missing my boy….he’s now been gone for just over 21 months.  People ask me all the time how long he’s been gone, or when he’ll be home….and that is always followed by “Really..wow it’s going by so quickly”.  Maybe it’s going by quickly to them, but to this mom it’s not.  I asked John one day when we were driving, “Do you miss him so much you can’t breathe sometimes”.  He just shook his head and let me know that he can still breathe.  I know the time is passing and he will be home soon…in fact he’ll be home in 85 days.  But, I was feeling a little lonesome today and found these pictures that were taken  before he left….they tell the story.  2 years is a very long time look how much they’ve grown……….
